Iowa City less boring
May. 30th, 2004 11:42 amSo the last day or so has been better. Saturday the ladies wanted to go the Iowa City pool, which was opening that day. Admission was $2.50, very reasonable, pretty nice facility. I had a nice swim. I should probably swim more; while I'm in decent cardiovascular shape from running, my upper body strength is almost nonexistent.
Later that evening, they went with another guy to the downtown bars. Not being able to get in, and having laundry to do, I declined. Not that I probably would have enjoyed it anyway. Iowa City has a silly law that persons under 19 cannot be in many business establishments after 10:00 pm. Perhaps it's only businesses that sell alcohol, but that's most of the businesses downtown. Last night I also baked bread, and it seemed to come out ok. Not the best I've done, but it is rather tasty.
I watched the K-19 DVD that I bought at the Quaker Bridge Mall the day before flying out. I enjoyed the movie and also found out that my roommate is a bit of a military buff. I stayed up too late watching it but managed to get up in time for church. The UIowa Newman Center is much much bigger than Swarthmore's. They have their own building and their masses are attended by a lot of people from Iowa City besides students.
I'm now in the physics building typing this. I need to buy razor blades at the drugstore but nothing's opening until 12:00. I think I'll also buy some stationary. I'd like to try writing some letters by hand; it would be fun and would be a pleasant way to pass the afternoon.
Thinking about the silly Iowa City law is making "Wir haben ein Gesetz" stuck in my head. Again.
