Today the Iowa City Public Library reopened, after having been closed for final construction and moving to an expanded new building for the past two weeks. This is probably the nicest public library I've ever seen. There are something like 40 internet terminals in the building, an extensive magazine collection, and a good selection of CD's and DVD's. Their nonfiction section was large enough, though I haven't yet had the chance to peruse that part of their holdings much.
I checked out Berlioz' Symphonie Fantastique on recommendation from
sildra as well as Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro. So even if I don't get to see the opera I can still listen to it. And I got a French movie, in a desperate attempt to keep up my French, and some books on Chicago. Lastly, I checked out Plato's Symposium, which I wanted to read but hadn't gotten to for a while.
In a little bit I'm going with some of the REU students to go see the Harry Potter movie. That will be fun. The AC in the theater will be nice as well as the heat outside is sweltering.
