Jun. 23rd, 2004 11:06 pmThe soaking I got in Chicago on Monday has left me with some kind of cold. It's not the typical runny, stuffy nose and sneezing that I usually get when I get sick. Rather, it's an entirely respiratory thing; I'm wheezing and coughing and my airway feels constricted. I haven't run now in 3 days, missed Ultimate yesterday, and don't know whether I'll play tomorrow. On the one hand, I've always liked to think of running as being good for the respiratory system and I think I've heard one or two coaches talk about running as a cure for minor illnesses. I think that's dubious though, and I'll not forget the time I was not feeling great, ran a PR mile indoors nonetheless, but then wound up with bronchitis. We'll see how things go tomorrow. I'm hoping this clears up in a day or two; if not I'll have to find a doctor here. The last time I was sick like this (summer before senior year) I wound up being prescribed prednisone to open up the airway. Hopefully it won't happen again; I figure the less steroids I consume the better.
I went to the University main library tonight and got some books on the role of athletics in the American university that were reviewed in Academe. On the way back, an amateur astronomer had set up a telescope on a street corner. I wound up seeing the moon and Jupiter.
Now for sleep, which will hopefully make me feel better.
