I'm again waiting for a few minutes on some data collection in lab, so I'm writing this now. In a sense I'm glad my PI will be on vacation for a couple of weeks. He'll never have to find out about yesterday's Allen wrench incident, for one. If he had been here I probably would have gotten a nice chewing out. Plus, no more eating out with the group for lunch on Fridays and having to foot the bill. Yes, the food is better than the dining hall, but my means are limited and my PI pretty much just talks about himself the entire time anyway.

(pause and make the pressure 20 mtorr, wait for it to stabilize)

We toured the National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) radio telescope in North Liberty today. It's part of the Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA) which has radio telescopes all over the country hooked together. We got to literally climb inside the 25 meter parabolic dish, which was a unique experience. The view over the edge towards the Coralville Lake was gorgeous as it was a lovely day today. Also got to meet some other UI undergrads doing astro research. I unfortunately got further confirmation that my PI is not considered a very nice guy from other students. It is fortunate that there are no physics profs at Swat who are disliked for their personalities (even I came to find that Paul Bloom is a decent fellow at heart, and [livejournal.com profile] crystalpyramid knows just how upset I was with him at one point).

Got to finish up with these datasets and change for Ultimate. I sure as heck hope that my prof does not read his students' LJ's.
