Today was technically a federal holiday. My postdoc was out, and I didn't have to go in to the lab, but I did anyway, to work on my scientific communications paper. I'm starting to become fed up with this assignment: explaining the processes of my research to a lay audience. Never mind that there are a gazillion things that could each take pages to explain. I'm supposed to assume that the audience knows basically nothing about physics.

But I did sleep in this morning, until 8ish, before going and running a couple of miles. Then I breakfasted at the Cottage (really tasty scones) before heading up to the lab.

This evening, while I was in Currier playing the piano, another severe Midwest thunderstorm hit. As it poured in sheets, I decided to start playing the Chopin "Raindrop" Prelude, which was amusing. And then on the way back, after the storm, as I walked along the Iowa River towards Mayflower, I saw a rainbow.
