It is difficult to go right back to sleep after being roused and excited in the night...

The honker went off around 3:15 tonight. [livejournal.com profile] msarcher saw me run out the door of ML and offered to drive. Both of us managed to don bunker gear and get on the Marion/Spartan pumper, 14-2. Nothing really happened after that; they had all 3 pieces out but it was nothing more than an alarm problem. We stood by on the truck and then drove back. The driver managed to turn 14-2 around with a broken U-turn in a very tight space, which was impressive. Driving fire engines, especially when you can't see out the back, is probably a whole level of driving skill beyond me...

Even if nothing serious happened, it was at least practice for donning gear quickly. In my haste, I initially tried putting on the boots of the girl in the rack next to mine, before I realized why they wouldn't fit. Got to remember next time that the hood goes on before the jacket, which I need to get zipped up more quickly with less fumbling. I did make some adjustments to my helmet so it won't flop around so much. Another reminder to self -- continually work on physical conditioning, for fire gear, even without SCBA, is not designed for ease of movement.

I should really try to sleep... I've got a medical appointment at Penn tomorrow morning which requires being on a 8:55 train.
