Dec. 23rd, 2004

I've been home a few days now. I went home Saturday afternoon after wrapping things up and some very hasty packing.

That Saturday I had brunch in the ML breakfast room. Pancakes with chocolate chips, banana, and walnuts are very good -- sweet and soft enough that they need no syrup. [livejournal.com profile] blaketh was trying to take his Physics 112 exam at the breakfast table, all the while poking/being poked by [livejournal.com profile] qianian. A bunch of people were working on papers while eating; I managed to hammer out the essay on my trip to the APS-DPP conference in Savannah that the HHMI people needed to reimburse me (yay for the check arriving in the mail yesterday).

After that I went up to the science center (hopefully for the last time in a couple of weeks) to turn in my grading to Catherine. I found [livejournal.com profile] apricotjam playing various games with Violet, Doc's littlest daughter. They managed to improvise a cute version of minature golf using a coffee bar cup top and various supplies from the Common Room and professors' offices. By the time I left they had managed to figure out how to get baseball going using a ruler and one of Boccio's whiteboard erasers. I've never really played with professors' children; I guess it's partly that I'm not very good with kids. It was really amusing, however, to see Lauren Willis getting fooled around with by Amy's littlest, Moses, and one of Carl's kids at the seminar dinner. It is also interesting to hear your profs complaining about their woes with their teenage children they aren't doing their homework.

Physics 14 stuff )

And has anyone else noticed that the manuscript of Boccio's quantum book, for once, isn't in Courier font?

Enough Swat-related stuff. I'm home. I'm not going to think about stuff like this for a little bit at least. I'll write something locked eventually about some significant things that are coming up. I'm going to go see [livejournal.com profile] nightengalesknd today, and if all goes well I'll see her and [livejournal.com profile] crystalpyramid at Hogmanay.

Happy, healthy holidays and safe travel to everyone out there. Seid umschlungen, Millionen, diesen Kuss der ganzen Welt...
