I have discovered that it is possible to pick up the Saturday afternoon live Metropolitan Opera broadcasts on 90.1 FM from my room. When I was in Willets, I could never get any radio signal, but being in ML and near a bunch of windows I'm getting great reception. This afternoon it's Puccini's Turandot. I have to go to the firehouse banquet though, so once this aria (Nessun dorma) ends, I'm going out for a short run and then a shower.

I grew up listening to the (then) Texaco Metropolitan Opera broadcasts on Saturdays, driving back from Chinese School. They're still doing Opera Quiz, where during the intermission they have people send in opera trivia questions to a panel of experts.

It was really surreal when, a few nights ago, I was listening to the Red Army Chorus on iTunes and heard them singing the exact same arrangement of the "Battle Hymn of the Republic" that I sang in high school. Down to my being able to belt out the bass line.
