Jun. 2nd, 2005 12:41 amAlumni Weekend approaches this weekend - I'm looking forward to things like Jim's Advanced Roundsing, and meeting some more of the nonlocal SWIL alums.
Fire school starts in exactly one week. Somehow I need to get my sleep schedule early enough that I'll wake up in time for 8:00 am Sunday morning drills. I have yet to manage to get myself into the weight room, which I really need to do. At least I've started to run at least somewhat regularly again - I took a nice loop up towards Woolman and back down through campus this evening. The one saving grace that's kept me from getting totally out of shape this semester has been the ~mile walk to and from ML every day. Getting on a run-in-the-morning schedule, as I try to do in summer, would require being up by 7:30 or so. At least my current state is a substantial improvement from the ridiculous situation of going to bed almost as the sun began to rise and then getting up at 11:00 that I was stuck in for part of the semester.
Every summer, however, I just get to realize how much time living takes. During the year, you just go down to Sharples, grab your food, and when you're done put the tray on the conveyor belt -- if you scramble you can get out in a half hour. Cooking dinner can take over an hour, even for a simple stir-fry, as I'm not very good with knifework (I spent maybe 45 minutes chopping vegetables, and then maybe 10 actually cooking over the stove). There is also the dubious cleanliness of the ML kitchen - were I in the clean, well-appointed one at home, things would definitely go faster. Last night the breakfast room stove was covered with a most unappetizing layer of grease and unidentifiable burnt stuff. And, of course, the dishwashing afterwards.
