I went downstairs to leave ML this morning, planning to, as usual, hop on my bike and pedal up to campus. But I found that my bike had been knocked over and the kickstand broken off. The bike is still perfectly ridable, of course, but I use that kickstand practically all the time. Still, the stand looked sturdy and the bike is less than a year old, so I doubt that it just broke on its own due to metal fatigue or something.
If someone was responsible, I have no idea. I personally believe that common decency requires one to at the very least leave a note when one breaks something belonging to someone else. Have people in ML no respect for others' property?
This isn't the first time, either; several weeks previously, someone had knocked over my bike, breaking my blue light in the process. I have not yet had time to fix my blue light; I think I will just end up duct taping it, giving that I will have to permanently remove it from my bike before long. As with this, no message of any sort admitting responsibility. Now it looks like I will be spending Friday afternoon after my Mechanics honors exam purchasing a new kickstand, the cost of which is probably nontrivial, and making repairs.
