Lunch was a sandwich of chevre and spinach sauteed with garlic in olive oil, a most delicious combination.

I've currently got two racks of baby back ribs, prepared according to Carl Grossman's recipe, slow-cooking in the oven. I'm planning to take them to a classmate's Superbowl party this evening -- we'll see how they turn out. Every time I've had Carl's ribs I've thought they were simply awesome, and just thinking about them is enough to transport me back to Swarthmore Physics holiday parties of yore, with Carl's crunchy-on-the-outside, succulent inside ribs, and the associated somewhat tipsy Christmas caroling and general merriment.

I am also contemplating going to the English-Scottish Ball next weekend at Swat. The catch is that I have to come back on the 12:13 overnight train from Philly to be back Sunday morning. So far I have not yet been able to find transport from Swat to Philly to make that train; the last R3 from Swat leaves at 10:31, halfway through the second half of the program. It increasingly seems that if I go, it will be by 2 legs of Chinatown busses. The window of opportunity for a $44 Saturday morning plane ticket on Southwest via Manchester is now gone, although it is a good thing to know about for the future.

Of course, there is a good argument that being away from Cambridge for a day if I shell out $108 to fly, or a day and a half if I take buses, is stupid and a waste of time that would be better spent on work. While it is possible to get to Swat by bus leaving around 6:30 on Saturday, I wouldn't arrive until late afternoon and the hassle hardly would seem worth it, especially if I then had to also leave early to catch the overnight train.
