I finally finished Melvyn Bragg's The Soldier's Return, which I had been reading on and off since around Thanksgiving. The novel is about the relationship between a British soldier returning from combat in Burma during World War II and his wife. I heard about the novel after a guest preacher in Memorial Church read and talked about a scene from the novel during his sermon, the Sunday before Remembrance Day. (I hasten to add that the novel is not a religious one, and that I don't particularly agree with the minister's interpretation of the scene he read.) I'll write some more about it eventually, either here or in SWAPA -- on the whole I thought it quite well done.
