Back in Somerville...

It has been an eventful week and a half. I'll write more about it all at some point, probably in SWAPA. The trip to NC was very worthwhile -- it was wonderful to see the wedding, and to reconnect with someone I hadn't seen in several years. There was quite a bit of driving to and from airports very late at night... but that is the sort of thing that makes such trips memorable.
Spending time at home with the family was also good -- the four of us had not been together since Christmas. Mom and Dad had returned from their badly needed vacation trip to Ireland, where unfortunately they had numerous misadventures such as not being aware that one could not take a rental car from Ireland into England by ferry across the Irish Sea. There will always be a tension between planning and spontaneity in travel, and their experiences, as well as my own in North Carolina and Mexico, have convinced me of a need for finding some happy medium, although I will probably always tend to have a plan wherever possible.
Returned not too long ago from my first reunion. I mostly stayed with SWIL, except for the all-alumni Mozart Requiem reading. The chorus did not do too badly, and the pickup orchestra was fine considering that they had no rehearsal time, other than when the timpanist got confused about what movement it was and started playing during the "Recordare." After this year, I enjoyed singing with John again and in a very relaxed environment. Next year, perhaps, at 2006's first official reunion year, I'd be more inclined to do things like the class parade and Alumni Collection, if I go.
Back to work tomorrow... we have several REU students coming in for the summer. That will be exciting.
