grr...

I had a book out from the library at the Center for Astrophysics that got recalled, due Wednesday. I was sure to return it at the Physics library before I left, on Monday morning. However, when I went up there, the librarian was busy helping someone, so I left that book (and another one from Cabot Library) on the desk, as is the typical procedure.

The book from Cabot got checked into the system fine. But not the one from the CfA library, which by now has racked up a hefty fine for being overdue when recalled. I'm going to have to call once the librarians get back from lunch and see what's going on.

Is this at Harvard? I'll be there on Sunday and onwards, so can probably go in and bully librarians into looking for the book if necessary, and return it if they have it. :)

Fortunately, the librarian was helpful when I called the Physics library. They don't have it, so he thought it was probably in transit back to Wolbach. So he checked the book back in and verified that I had not yet accrued a fine, which was good because the fines for overdue recalled books tend to be steep.

I always tend to be careful with recalled materials, because of the steep fines... also, after undergrad, with CD's. The Swarthmore libraries tended to be very lenient about fines (in most cases, none at all, for general collection materials) except for recordings in the music library. There, they fined 50 cents per disc per day. So... I kind of got burned one time when I forgot about some 3 CD opera for a few days.

Anyway, hopefully this is all sorted out, and the CfA library will get the book back for the person who recalled it.
