Yesterday was the most unproductive day ever. Not a jot of work on my presentation, due Monday.

But... I wound up reading Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix in one day. And I had a nice phone chat with [livejournal.com profile] msarcher.

The Amanas

I went with Kate Pacha, Adrian, RaeLin, and Cindy to the Amana Colonies this afternoon. We had great weather and a lovely time. I spent too much money, as I feared; I got, among other things, a sausage to take home. I also got a loaf of bread which I'll probably eat over the next few days.

We also went to a local brewery, the Millstream Brewery, that has some of the best root beer I've ever tasted. I got a six-pack, and it's unlikely that I'll drink that much soda before leaving Iowa. So... there's definitely something if anyone plans for a soda tasting later this year, or if we really want to, I suppose some of that could be saved for the next Kegger...

Dinner at the Brick Haus Restaurant was superb; I split an order of wiener schnitzel with Kate and still ended up stuffed because of the quantity of the side dishes they served with entrees. And this was after not really having had anything for lunch.

I'm drinking what I brewed -- I should never have waited until now to seriously start my 10 minute PowerPoint final research presentation.

I haven't used PowerPoint in years (not since a presentation on particle accelerators or something like that, in Physics 6H).

The interface is unintuitive; simple tasks like copying images from other slides are tough. I don't like how Microsoft presumes a specific format for the slide (title and then bulleted list) unless you conscienscously choose something else.

If I were to become a physicist and had to give talks more often, I'd seriously consider getting Apple's Keynote presentation software. Has anyone had any experience with it?

Returning some scores to music library before they close for the night and the scores become overdue; then back to work.

This is one of those days where I'd like to use a flamethrower on every computer I see...

I'm too damn tired and busy to rant about all the trouble I've had to go to, just to insert a video clip of a mechanical wave propagating through a plasma crystal into my PowerPoint.
