Dec. 14th, 2004 05:56 pmMakes you feel old... spent a while just now dispensing encouraging vibes to the sophomores before their Physics 8 exam this evening. They're somewhat lucky in that Catherine's only making it 3 hours for them, instead of 4.
Man... I am so going to need luck with 111 tomorrow, especially with coupled oscillators. If Amy asks for seminar feedback, I'm so going to slam the latter part of Thornton and Marion, where so much stuff would be clearer if they used linear algebra instead of slogging through what at times was an almost impenetrable fog of summations. T/M did a good job with Lagrangian and Hamiltonian dynamics, certainly, but sort of went downhill after that. I'm wondering if it wouldn't be better to selectively use a more advanced book, like Goldstein, instead of T/M.
This does not detract from my need to study for said final. Au travail, tout le monde! Et bon courage aux etudiants de Physique 8.
