I threw a dinner party tonight for a bunch of my officemates from Harvard physics. It was nice... I think we all had a nice time. I made coq au vin, green beans sauteed with garlic and lemon, and [livejournal.com profile] areyououtthere's family cauliflower. Everyone seemed to like the latter, and at least one of my classmates said they'd try choufleur Melton the next time they had cauliflower, especially given how straightforward the recipe is. For dessert we had chocolate cake with a raspberry sauce. The cake was particularly good soaked with the Carolans Irish Creme liqueur one of my officemates brought.

Speaking of the alcohol... several good wines were had. Matt brought a pinot noir from Burgundy, and an Italian pinot grigio, which we had with dinner. Then someone else had brought a very smooth sparkling dessert wine. Alas... despite not having had very much of any of the wines, in combination, they disagreed violently with me. Fortunately my officemates were great and cleaned up while I was slumped in a chair, groaning and clutching my stomach...

And then there was singing... [livejournal.com profile] katertoticus sang a lot of a capella in college, and we sang a bunch of different things, ranging from show tunes to collegiate a capella repertoire. She and I did a duet of Loch Lomond which was a lot of fun, thanks to its lyrics being in Rise Up Singing. We may have to form a little physics grad a capella ensemble sometime...

The machinist usually has an oldies station on the radio in the machine shop. It always feels weird when you thus hear the original version of a Bryn Mawr Stepsing-parodied song for the first time. For instance, I heard "I Say a Little Prayer for You" this afternoon.
