I'm back from the APS-DPP conference. I had a nice time in Savannah, which was blessedly warm compared to Swat. I have a ton of 111 to do so I'll keep this brief. I got to see and briefly talk to a couple of people whose books and papers I've read, including Valery Godyak (wrote this manuscript on Soviet RF plasma research that I've got to show [livejournal.com profile] crystalpyramid and someone named Shukla, who wrote a pretty good dusty plasma book. I got some comments on my poster, including some of the "this might be a problem" variety which exposed me to things I hadn't thought about before. In the future, I'll remember to put length scales on pictures.

I went to a number of the talks, some of which were good, others of which were so technical I was lost in minutes. I saw some Swat alums including Cameron Geddes (invited laser-plasma talk this morning), Amy Reighard, and others. I also saw some plasma people I met out at UIowa, including Kate Pacha and Ahmed Diallo. Kate an I had an excellent dinner at the Lady and Sons last night; my crabcakes were superb and I could go on eating their hoecakes all day.

The unfortunate bit is that U.S. Airways has managed to lose my luggage on the return flight. This was not completely expected because my connection from Savannah was half an hour late and I barely got on the plane myself; I guess my suitcase never made it. It should come tomorrow. Also, I will be issued fire turnout gear tomorrow evening before seminar, which will be exciting.

Now for finishing dinner and getting to work.
