Thus far I am surviving. I took another practice GRE on Saturday night, when I was so tired as to feel near collapse. This one went significantly better than the one I took a week before that, so I'm more optimistic at this point.

Last night (when I should have been grading Physics 8) I came across this essay by Matt Landreman in a Physics Today outside Carl Grossman's office. Wonder what people think... This after this week's 115 reading involved prose like "It is then a simple matter to show from Eqn. 4.7.5 that the total Hamiltonian is given by *several lines of stuff* where we have used Equations 4.1.2, 4.1.5, 4.3.19, and 4.6.8." and in another place the author pulling what turned out to be a distinctly nontrivial and obscure math trick in which he introduced a dummy variable without saying what it was...

Today I had to go to CVS to get passport photos taken (I need another 6 of them for my Churchill Fellowship). It's incredible how there is already Christmas stuff everywhere.

I'm not sure when they decided that Christmas should start after Halloween, but it's just not right. At least wait until Thanksgiving - isn't a month enough? The late fall doesn't help things.
